AUDIO JACK

I broke the audio output jack on my computer, the computer is a laptop with integrated audio. I am pretty sure that i cannot replace the jack, so i was wondering if there was a way to alter the computers settings so that it would switch the input and output jacks. This way i would be able to listen to music through my microphone jack. I have windows xp on my computer. Thanks

No; they're totally separate circuits. They don't do the same thing, so they aren't interchangable. You're going to have to try to fix the audio jack, get it fixed, or live with no sound.

If you want to spend the money, I saw that Soundblaster has a PCMCIA slot card that is like an add-on sound card for laptops, mostly used for gaming I think.

There are USB versions, too, for $20-30.

I'd be opening the thing up before adding another dangler.

I got a USB sound card from newegg last year, and it's worked great. It's the size of a small USB memory stick and has a headphone jack for output as well as 5.1 optical out.

Is that turtle beach usb 5.1 surround card for pc only? I'm getting myself Logic Pro 7 for christmas, and I need to get 5.1 or better out of my mac to edit properly.

Optical out on the turtle beach is only for windows. I've seen USB adapters for Mac before, but not in 5.1

if the jack itself is broken and not something behind it it would be a easy fix for anyone thats fairly good at soldering. anyone into electronics repair. i wouldnt doubt if you could take it to a radio shack or something like that and get it fixed for less then $50

Are you sure you can't replace the jack? On my Dell XPS I broke my headphone jack by mistake, but I noticed after taking it apart that it was just a fan/headphone/mic jack bundled with a small circuit board. After combing the net for info, I found the part number for that combo, called up dell, and got a replacement one in the mail.

Perhaps you can take it apart and see if maybe you can find a part number or at least get a good idea of what is broken and contact the manufacturer to see if you can get a replacement.
