Need a new power supply...

I just put together an Athlon 64 3800+ w/ a GeForce 6800 GT PCIe 256mb card. I bought a case that had a crappy colorsit 480w supply.

For one, there's definitely not enough power plugs on the line, and with my video card hooked up, I can only have 1 HDD plugged in at once or it will not power up (except for about 1 second).

What is the recommended brand / wattage supply for a system like this?

Here's everything that I need to power:

- Motherboard
- 2 plugs for the GeForce
- 3 case fans, these can all be daisy chained off 1.
- 1 DVD Burner
- 2 ATA HDDs
- Front plate of the case (has temp gauges, etc)

I don't want to break the bank on a supply, but I need something of good quality and quiet.

There's a bunch of threads on this, but they can be hard to find. I HIGHLY recommend Enermax.

I have a 410 watt Enermax in my PC. It powers the following hard drives:

160 GB
160 GB
120 GB
80 GB
300 GB
200 GB
DVD burner
6800 GT 256 MB video card
2 GB corsair XMS PC3200 ram
soundcard
barton 2500+

And it's only a 410 watt. Go for it.

the wattages isnt as important as the output current. if you look at your power supply it will say +3.3V@30A, +5V@32A, +12V@35A, -5V@0.3A, -12V@0.8A, +5VSB@2A or something like that. that is the power output. amd processors use the 12volt line, usually, and thats what is plugged into your motherboard. the video cards run on 5 volt, and thats the 4 prong connector, usually this is where there isnt enough output in amps (=current). so your power supply is probably rated lower, giving you less plugs.

i have an Aspire power supple like this, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817148008
it sounds like you have a 24 pin motherboard power connector, since you have a amd 64 board, just make sure you get powersupply that has 24pin support and you will probably have enough juice left over for some SLI action

I ended up picking up an Antec 500w supply and it's running great. The supply has 4 slots in the back where you can choose which type of power connections you need, allowing you to only plug in the cables you need, so there's not a bunch of extra cables laying in the case.

It was well worth the $100 I paid for it.
