Anyone know what this is??

This guy I'm going into business with, sent this to me, and since I don't know exactly what it does, I'm turning to you all to help me out. He said it was something to do with viewing web cams, but I'm skeptical. Any help will be appreciated!

What was the context behind the link? Just a "hey check this out" or are you guys working on webcams and that's why he mentioned it? I'm also pretty stumped - that website ( the /ichikawa/ directory) has nothing on it but that file.

Did he actually send it to you, or did a program hijack his email or IM program and send it to you? Ask him before using; I don't trust it.

Google's stumped, and I've quickly run over it to get the strings out and not found very much (other than the obvious fact it's a windows executable). The fact it doesn't have many strings makes me suspicious though.
dbvwebhosting.com has only been registered quite recently (3rd november) to "Tiago Carvalho" at a PO box in CA. Any use?

He sent me this link, and said to dl it, and run it to "view" this web cam. I'm very suspisious as well. Anything that is like this, I don't want to open and run unless I know what it is. Thanks for the help.

I'd imagine it's some kind of virus or trojan horse software, given that. Was the reference as part of a larger e-mail, or was it just an out of the blue e-mail consisting of "do this" ? If it was the latter, I'd imagine that it's a worm of some kind getting passed around. The former would be far fishier and confusing.

if it was sent by email, and is really important to you give him a call and confirm if he sent such a message otherwise, it could harm your pc

absorbentishe 11-09-2005 02:49 PM

It was in an e-mail addressed to me, we've been in contact a few times, but only via e-mail. Either way, I'm loading that to my pc!

Pragma 11-09-2005 04:04 PM

Well yea, but was there anything else in that particular e-mail to indicate normal correspondence, or else would it be likely that some worm just read his address book and spammed you?

Nimetic 11-13-2005 04:45 AM

If they are web cams... then you can view them over the web, ie with a web browser.

You'd not need no stinking executable eh? Very suspicious.

Im throwing in my vote with the "virus" crowd. Don't run it.

Xazy 11-13-2005 05:39 AM

Got to agree, I would say probably a virus, don't do it!
