Herman Miller Aeron

Been looking into one of these chairs for a few months now. I put it on the backburner for a little bit but I've been having circulation problems during recent long stretches working at my computer as all of the cushion padding is virtually gone in my cheap chair now.

I'm about to throw down $950 out the door at The Healthy Back store on the highly-adjustable version of this chair. I've found three official dealers online that support the 12-year warranty but they only knock off <$100 so I'd just assume stay local. I found a few Ebay auctions like these but the reserves haven't been met yet so I'm guessing they're going to go for just as much as official online stores.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Herman-Miller-AE...QQcmdZViewItem and http://cgi.ebay.com/CARBON-Herman-Mi...QQcmdZViewItem.

So does anyone have any experience with price shopping for these chairs, factory warranty included? Is it possible to find this version for, say, <$800 online or in person?

Thanks for any info guys.

Edit: Just got back from the store and wound up picking a different chair. It's called CXO and it's a little more comfortable with it's foam seat cushion. I've got thirty days to decide if I like it during which I plan on seeing if I'm happy with the amount of ventillation it provides. I also managed to get them to knock off $200 due to the ending-today online sale price

I've been sitting in one for 5 years now. It's great.

You can sometimes get "academic" pricing for them ... I think we paid about $800 for mine here at the college.

Would I be able to do that since I'm a college student or would I have to go through a professor at a reputable school?

I've been sitting on one for about 6 months. I can't say that I love it. It looks good and it sits fine but I've had better chairs.

i've got one of the old school Hermans...love it to death, but most of the charm comes from it's 1950's vintage. pretty sure it's not the original run or anything, but it is pretty damn old.

It doesn't hurt to ask. Tell them you're a poor college student ...

I have had experience with warranty work on a HM aeron. Essentially I called them up, told them about the cracked seat frame, and without question over nighted one to me, after verifying only the serial number.

I actually scored the broken chair from work, meaning I didn't actually buy it, had no paper work (nor was I asked to produced any) to demostrate that I owned it, and they still did this.

That, I think, would be indicative, that no matter where you buy it, expensively and locally, or cheaper, on-line, and tax free, you will have warranty coverage without question.

Ever I have to say, everytime I look at this thread I think

"ya ya ya, he's playing WoW in that chair!"

Anyway, keep us up to date on the chair, I've been thinking of getting that Aeron myself and if the CXO is better I'll look at it.

I took the plunge about two years ago and picked up an aeron for our home office.

Gotta say I love ours, I can sit in it all evening and be comfortable the entire time.

I don't think that the Posture Fit option is worth the extra $90.00, though.

I picked it up thru Room and Board they had a $100 off deal, and I also had the option to pick it up myself (saving another $75.00)

If you have the opportunity, go sit in one for yourself and see if it's comfortable for you. If you're not comfortable, it doesn't matter how much you've spent on it.

In my chair research I did come across this one... Unfortunately it was out of my price range at the time (around $1200 then, now they seem to be going for about $999) It was really comfortable too.

Personally I'm not that fond of the Aeron. But then I haven't sat in one for longer than about two hours.
