oh dear,
I've never encountered this, or it seems many people here. I've basicaly got it where my computer's download freezes after a variable ammount of time.... this really only happens after it has downloaded more than 10mb. It also happens to all the other computers on the network. Any ideas on what's up for this? Should I call my isp or something or what?
Thanks for the help. |
im not that good at this type of thing but it smells like a spyware / that type of thing issue. i had a network that was doing realy funky shit one time. it would go from working perfect to not communicating with each other then to working again. i reformated all the computers and it has worked perfect since. it was spyware problems.

hun... I've been running ad aware on my computer I wonder if it's something on my girlfriends computer.

wireless router? This sounds more like a technology / connectivity issue than spyware...
Did you do anything recently like installing networking software, new hub.. etc? |
Actualy.. it does sound like a tech/connectivity issue to me as well. Not characterized as spyware, if it is stopping transmission then it is most likly a connectivity problem.
Even spyware is usualy made for some purpose.. There is not purpose in halting downloads... I mean... why would somthing built to monitor or take more control over halt the very downloadable methods that would enable it to download more programs itself and gain more access more on a computer.. |
Although I agree that it sounds like a connection issue and not spyware, I would have to say in my experience spyware is not very well written and can have serious bugs that can screw up a system. So even though there's no purpose in spyware halting downloads, it may be doing it accidentally.
Are you running a hardware firewall on a router or software ones on the machines? If so, does it still happen when you turn them off? |
thats the kinda crap i would expect from my wonderful linksys router. dont happen to use a linksys do you?
|
Does the problem happen to all of them at the same time? If so, I"d suspect the router you are using. Most consumer-grade routers SUCK. The biggest thing I've noticed that they like to do is hang for no good reason.
