Picasa 2 and Google Earth
Google's Picasa 2 (http://picasa.google.com/index.html) seems to be an amazing program. It indexes all your photos and videos and helps you neatly organize and rename and edit them in a ridiculously easy way.
The only strange thing is that it doesn't actually edit an of the files that you play with, but rather makes a new file so your original can't be harmed--seems a little bulky, but great for people who tend to mess things up. My firewall also tells me that it is accessing the internet. Google Earth (http://earth.google.com/) on the other hand is just plain amazing. It makes you feel like you are living in the future. I absolutely am addicted. So what's up with these Google cats anyway? How is it that they can offer such amazing software for free? Are the secretly.... THE MAN? Thoughts? Reviews? Praise?

You know Google Earth is great when everyone in the computer class stops, downloads it to their laptop, and starts playing with it, including the professor

Yea, I snagged a copy of Google Earth and managed to have hours of fun with it. For instance, I found my way over to Geneva, Switzerland, located the hotel I stayed at by walking up the hill from the jet d'eaux fountain, past the tram station at Cornavin, etc. - very detailed maps. And then I found my apartment here in the US

Forget about Google Earth. Go to Nasa's site and download "World Wind". Makes google earth look as though it were designed by Fisher Price. Access to USGS surveys, 3 different Landsat 7 formats, etc. Enable "rapid-fire MODIS" and download high quality photos of natural disasters, volcanoes, forest fires, cool cloud formations, etc.
Much better than Google Earth
