Asus A8N-E Motherboard problem - Doesn't find PCI cards
I'm just about at my wits end here guys...
ASUS A8N-E MOTHERBOARD ATX S939 NFORCE4 ULTRA DDR PCI-E16 PCI-E4 2PCI-E1 3PCI SATA RAID GBLAN SOUND AMD ATHLON 64 3000+ PROCESSOR S939 VENICE 1.8GHZ 512K L2 CACHE 90NM RETAIL BOX CREATIVE SOUND BLASTER AUDIGY 2 I can give more info on the system if needed. Alright, so I put together this computer for my brother, everything is going flawlessly. I install Windows XP, then start installing drivers. First of all I disable the onboard Sound in the BIOS and I try to install the drivers for the Sound Card, and it tells me it cannot find the Sound Card. So I tried another PCI slot and same thing...cannot install drivers, and it's not listed in the Device Manager. So I take the card out, enable the onboard sound, and install the motherboad sound driver and then I have sound. So I think it may be the sound card. I decide to leave it alone for now so I go to get my brother's internet up and running. And now, the 56K Modem in the third PCI slot cannot be found either. I am almost out of ideas. Will updating the BIOS help? Is there something wrong with the Motherboard and will I have to RMA it back and get a new one? Any help will be appreciated. |

Just to clarify. You uninstall the onboard audio first. Then, second, you install the sound card. Then you reboot. Then you install the soundcard software. Is that right? If done in that order, the pc should recognize the new hardware after the reboot. If that's not happening for you, it sounds to me like you might have a mobo problem.
Is there anything in the manual about having to change a jumper setting on the mobo to disable onboard?

In fact, neither the sound card or the Modem is recognized at all in any of the 3 PCI slots. I am worried it's a mobo problem, and I'll be quite bummed out if I have to take everything apart to RMA the mobo back. |
