Strange memory problem
*sigh*
Let's make a long story short - Attempted RAM upgrade in an eMachine, need to use expensive, low-density RAM to reach 512mb, put both 256mb sticks in, johnson boots, windows gets pissed and won't load, comes up fine in BIOS, sticks pass grueling memtestx86 tests, BUT any 256mb stick + any old 128mb stick = works! |
Can't be fixed. You used up all your bits with those long BATTERY_RECONDITION_COMMAND_LINE.EXE thngs.
What's the "windows gets pissed" part? Windows XP? Do you get a stop code? |
Nope, it just doesn't load XP. No error, just reboots and gives ze "Wind0ze could not boot, so um, safe mode, boot logging etc etc?" none of which work.
|
Not any XP at all? Can you at least interrupt the boot loader and try to select safe mode or whatever? I'd expect it to die later when the memory manager initializes.
Any chance either stick provides parity? I'm doubting any emachines would pass it on but hey... What's the complete BIOS report for the RAM? |
Yeah I can get to the boot loader but none of the choices gt me anywhere. The BIOS report is A-OK everything normal, no parity.
