Need higspeed lowdrag email client.
 

I was wondering if anyone knew of an email client from I could manually edit designate the "From:" field of emails I send?

I know with outlook and others, I can create multiple accounts and have a variety of from addy's available in a drop down, but I just want something where in addition to spelling out the addresses to which I send the email I can also arbitrarily define the address the email is "FROM:"

Ideally this email client will run on windows and be free...all options will be considered though.

Outlook, Thunderbird, et al -- they all provide this ability. You can designate any "From:" address when you setup the client. However -- if you plan to do something illegal with this spoofed From:, be careful. Most clients do not support obfusticating your email headers, and the true sender is still visible to the trained eye.

Nothing illegal intended, and I'm aware of the one time setup capability of those clients.

Here's my story, I have a domain and ALL the address, but a few a destined to me.

When I register for something my email address is always thedomainatwhichiregister.com@mydomain.com and I invariably get emails from them. However instead of replying with the email address I registered with, i.e. thedomainatwhichiregister.com@mydomain.com, I end up replying with me@mydomain.com...I could go and create pop accounts on my server (instead of directing everything to me@mydomain.com) and then additionally create accounts for each of these pop3 accounts on my email client, but surely there must be an easier way.

Just feeling it out.

Oh well I'll keep looking. I mean you can do this manually when you HELO mail directly off of a server from a port 25 telnet sesch...

In the mean time, I did discover a nice feature in thundebird that allows me to create 'identities' without an associated account which provides a drop down of the from field of my emails and allows me to choose from some preconfigured email addy's.

That'll do for now until I can write my own email client. (this means it'll do forever :thumbsup: )

Yeah, but it isn't free. I use mailshell.com , and all of my email goes to them. I do the same trick that you do (set the from address to match the URL of the site I visit). Another nice part is that you can set different levels of spam protection for each address; I default it to Off, but if I start to get spam, I can either up the spam protection level or cancel the address entirely.
