Media Player Question
i got a question about ms media player. i have a .mp3 and when i try to play it with it version 10 it says its incompatible; but i can play it with the older version of mp [mplayer2.exe]. can someone explain why it will play in one but not the other? thanks

Chances are it's a protected mp3. It was ripped in a new version of Media Player (8+) with the media protection enabled. It will play in older versions because they don't recognize the protection. New versions, however, will only let it play on the machine it was ripped on (I believe).

moose is right. Chances are Media wants the rights and license for the file in order to play it. Do yourself a HUGE favor and get winamp. Your computer and ears will thank you.

What they said. WMP10 tends to want to dominate every aspect of multimedia you use.
If you have both versions of WMP installed, try deleting the one you don't want. Or, just get winamp. |
thanks for the comments. im just going to rerip the cd myself instead of letting a buddy do it. that way i know its done right.
ive never been a big fan of winamp for some reason but i may give it a try. |
I've got MP 10 with XP and it plays everything fine but it didn't used to play anything at all! No Windows updates, no codecs, no changes relevant. Reboot number 47 and it started working. Hmmm, set a restore point quickly!!
