External USB Port

I have a computer on machine. I need to hook a usb devise up to this machine but do not want to open the computer up. If opened it will viod the warantee and when this computer costs 15000$ from the manufacture i do not want to go messing with it to much. so i was wanting a usb port that hooks to a com port or parallel port. Or a Adapter for a USB devise to make it hookup to a Com or other port.

Any chance the manufacturer has an approved USB card you can buy? Even if they have to install it, that might be the best option.

What's the device? Intended use? Anything on the serial or parallel ports is going to be slow. It could work for printing, but bitmaps will go slowly. File transfers will be horrible.

Er... if that's the specs of your machine, you already HAVE an external USB port. I have yet to see an internal USB port.

FYI, just look for the small rectangular ports (about 1 cm wide).

As for the warantee... I suggest buying from a normal retailer the next time. You know, one without such insane rules.

This computer is built into the machine. the machine is a 250,000 Cnc Profile Grinder. And I know what a usb port looks like. It has none. And the computer has special boards in it made to control the machine. So you cant just use any Computer. Also all the pci slots are taken up so i can not add any. And the manufacture wants 3000$ just to showup. The files i want to transfer are only like 10kb each. What i wanted to do was hook a usb wireless network card up to it so i could transfer files to it. The machine already has a ethernet port but i dont wanna run a cord to it. Its pretty far away from everthing else and if i could just hook it up wireless it would great. Now if there is a way to hook the already ethernet card up to a wireless devise that would also fix the problem.

*Drool* Figured it was something like that.

Any Ethernet to wireless solution should work. Look for an Ethernet bridge, or even an access point if you don't have one already.

Here's an example of a bridge product:

Do what you can to keep it away or shielded from shop debris. I've ruined a bit of home/office hardware from all the junk flying around my shop.
