Incredible HP experience
I recently bought an HP 1610 Multifunction printer, scanner, copier. All of the sudden it wouldn't grab any paper. It would engage the rollers and try to grab them, then it would say out of paper. I did a real time chat with HP about the issue, we spent about 15 - 20 minutes trying different thing (resetting the device, media sensor calibration... etc). Finally they said that it was obviously a problem with the printer. So they are sending me a new one free of charge. They aren't even making me pay shipping. Incredible, they are really trying to step up their customer service, which is nice since most companies seem to be letting it slip.

Man, it is great to see a post like this. Most people are pretty quick to post with "HP sucks donkey balls....!" when they have the slightest issue with them. However, it's rare to see anyone commend a big corportation even when they clearly deserve it.

HP's auxilliary products have always been good to me. I like my little printer :)

When it comes to printers, HP is the shit.
When it comes to computers, HP is just plain shit. I'm glad you discovered the good half of them, though. |

I'll admit I haven't had an HP since the Deskjet 6x series, but every one I've ever had, the printer itself was great but the drivers sucked, making it pretty much an all around crappy product. Have they improved that, I hope? I also like HP/Compaq laptops (helps that they're not actually made by HP) and their palmtops. The rz3715 rocks! |
I agree about the HP Drivers. The day I removed my officejet 725 manager, my computer started running smoothly again. No more "not responding" background programs for me!

I think their cameras are pretty good too. Drivers are definately teh suck though :( |
I hear good things about their laptops and peripherals both. I don't buy OEM computers and discourage friends and family from doing the same by pointing out that I can put one together that does more for less money, but I'd suppose they serve a purpose.
Just pointing out too that the fifteen minutes you spent troubleshooting was necessary, because for every customer with a legitimate issue someone calls up with a paper jam and says 'my printer is broken, send me a new one.' Having experience working on helpdesks, I know for a fact that there are a lot of idiots out there. |
Recently i had a great experance with dell Tech support. The j key on my Inspiron 9300 fell off. So i got on a tech support chat with one of the people at 4am in the morning. Gotta love the 24/7 tech support. And 5-6 mins later they told me they was sending me a new keyboard free of charge. 2 days later i got it ups. In about 10 mins i installed it with the tools Dell sent. Put the old keyboard back into the box the new one came from. Put dells shiping label on it and sent it out. Cost me 0$$ and got me back up and running as fast as humanly possable. I am realy impressed with dells tech support. Now everthing has there bad things. Like take dells constants calls tring to sell me more stuff. thats annoying.

Yeah, I would never buy an HP computer, but there printers have always been good. Yeah, their drivers can be a hassle, but the hardware is good. I was glad to see that they stand by the products they sell.
This is the first time I haven't gone OEM for a computer, I instead built it myself. I was able to get what I wanted and keep within my budget. |
I have never had a good experience with HP products...I will say their printers are revolutionary. They always come up with affordable printers way ahead of the competition, but they are unreliable. My roommates had all-in-one printers from hp and were unreliable. The software slows down your pc, and half the time the printer won't work right. I saved myself the trouble and bought myself a dell AIO printer. So far no complaints and it didn't slow down my pc

I've always loves HP printers. Mainly the LaserJets and simple Deskjets.
