Thinking About A Hellacool Laptop Mod
I have a Dell Inspiron 6000, and it has one cool little thing I like about it: the multimedia buttons on the front face light up blue when they are pressed. I like it so much that it has got me thinking; could I maybe carry this theme to different parts of the system??? Now, I'm not too familiar with either LED size/power usage or laptop physical construction, but here is what I was thinking:
LED's or blue fiber optic strips underneath the keyboard, speaker ports, and top air vents Replacing existing green LED's with blue. Is this possible at all??? |
i've seen it done on mouses, keyboards, fans, HDs, etc... before but never on a laptop...
you should do it just to be the 1st! hehehe |
You could certainly do this. Your best bet would be to place the LED's where you want them within the case, splice off the power LED and run them all in series off of that, that way when the computer's on the LED's will all be on. Power usage is insignifigant, but if the lappy's still under warranty, cracking the case will void it. Just be aware of that part.

Yeah, not too worried about the warranty, they've never done me any good. I figured resistance wouldn't be a factor (especially since all we're dealing with here is low-power light sources), the wiring won't be a problem. Most of what I want to know is if I crack the case open, will I be able to put it back together with some ease?

I've never worked on an Inspirion specifically, but my general experience with laptops is that they tend to be a bit cramped, but come apart and go back together fairly easily.
