Hibernation problems with laptop
I have a Dell Inspiron 700m that I recently acquired in June. Last week I put it in Hibernation mode and put it in my backpack and went to work. I pulled it out at work and noticed that my battery was down a little bit. So I tried an experiment. I tried to put it in hibernation mode and low and behold, it reset itself. During the reset after the splash screen it said "resuming windows" like it had been in hibernation mode. Thats where I get confused. Everytime I put it in hibernation mode it resets itself. Is there any way to fix this problem or does anybody even know whats going on? I would sure like to fix this because hibernation mode saves me some time when I startup and I dont want to have to turn it off everytime I need to go somewhere that I want to take it with me. Any information would be great. Thanks everybody.

Check the advanced tab in your power control panel. You may have buttons or lid functions that are fighting with hibernate.
There could also be other custom "button" features specific to Dell. I know they ship with a fully laden Titanic of goodies but haven't spent much time with them in a couple years. Good luck!

Hibernation never seems to work well under XP or I've had more problems with it than I thought was worth it. I generally just use Standby mode, but I think it drains more battery.
