If I leave my PC on for too long, it starts gradually slowing down. Something is interfering with the clock speed or something, as the displayed time will gradually fall further and further behind, and performance will grind to a halt. Rebooting the computer refreshes the clock to its correct time and peformance is back to normal.

I've run spyware removal and such, but could there be a bigger problem? No applications seem to be affected beyond the slow down.

press CTRL + ALT + DEL (I'm assuming you are using XP or Windows 2000?)
click on the option for Task Manager, under Processes see what is using up the CPU and memory.
Don't shut down explorer.exe but by all means let us know which process is using up your computer resources if you don't know which program it is causing the problem.

Actually, it's Windows ME, and I think it has something to do with leaving Firefox open. I just had the computer on all day with nothing open, and it's fine.

Yep FF still has some memory leak problems. But I'd never heard of it slowing someone down that much!

Try the Firefox 1.5 Beta, which was released late last week. I've been running the nightlies for months. There are a lot of memory fixes in it, and the stability is fine. The only issue: many extensions have not been updated to work with 1.5. There's a semi-secret workaround to that, but you have to be willing to take the risk of damaging your profile.
