Car Sound Advice Needed
I have a 97 Toyota Camary, and I have a sub box for a 12" woofer. however, I have no clue what kind I should get, what kinds I should avoid, and what is involved with actually installing one. For now I am sticking with the original speakers and cd deck...although I will eventually want to upgrade those as well.
I just want to fill that sub box with something soon. |

go to a place that sells speakers (car toys, magnolia audio video, bestbuy, etc) and have one of the people in that department show you all the subs they have. Its best to have them play it through a deck similar to yours and a amp that you have or plan to get to power your new booming device. Then simply pick the one you think sounds best and in your price range.
for brands to check out... -> diamond, alpine, infinity and JL are great places to start. |

Well, how big is the box? What is the internal volume? Is it ported? Any speaker has a list of operating ranges, and setting up the right size box can make the difference between "wow" and "that sucks". So find out what you have, then match it with the short list of speakers that fit the bill. At the very least, it will filter out certain speakers.

The guy there said to make sure that the RMS amps were about the same, and not to wory about the other numbers. I don't know if that is true....and since one of my friends works in the computer department,....I know that they just look at getting a sale...and selling a bunch of stuff you wouldn't really need. At least that is what they do at the one here. Is that a good match? I know Sony isn't on the list you mentioned...but I have a lot of trust in sony when it comes to audio electronics. My headphones, mini disc player, etc...all sony. Not cause it's a known name brand, but they have had consistently good audio at a relitivley good price in my experiance. |

Personally, I think Sony speakers are crap. I would never buy that stuff. They make many great products, but I've never heard a Sony speaker that sounds good.
How much do they want for that at Best Buy? If you're gonna buy that stuff get it here.... I'll bet they're way cheaper. http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=13718 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=12953 What's your price range? Maybe I can give you a little better option.. I know one option that would be great, and that would be to never ever buy car audio equipment from places like Best Buy, Circuit City, and stores like that. Head to a couple of car audio stores in your area. Their prices will be better and the people in the stores will actually know what they're talking about. Also, is it a sealed or ported box, and what are the dimensions of the box? |

my only adivce about the above place listed is that they dont tell you whether or not what you are buying is in stock or not.
I ordered a capacitor last friday and it still hasnt processed yet. so just be warned (btw i realize its only been 3 business days, but it mentions somewhere that using a credit card makes the processing almost instant). |
