Problem with Firefox

I have a problem which as far as I can tell randomly occurs, but it occurs more then I'd like it to. The problem is when I double click firefox icon firefox won't pop up, the cursor will go to the hour glass like it's going to open then it goes away and nothing happens.

Restarting the computer seems to always fix it, and somtimes (but not most of the time) just clicking on start>turn off computer then clicking cancel will get it to run.

Oh and one last thing, when I do have to restart the computer the windows task manager thing comes up telling me to end the firefox program before I restart the computer and it allows me to end it. However when I click on firefox and it doesn't open firefox won't be on the list of applications that are running in the task manager. I have to actually click on restart on the computer in order for it to appear on the task manager.

I hope this post makes sense, any help would be appreciated. Oh and I'm on windows xp if that helps at all.

Open the task manager, go to processes, and firefox.exe should be running - it's happened to me before and I'm not exactly sure what causes it. Just end-process firefox from that list (instead of Applications) and then try to start it up again.

What? I'm always first to respond on Firefox threads. How'd those people post before me?

Anyway, the remaining question is "why". I would guess that one of your extensions is troublesome. Have you checked to see if there are any updates to any extensions you are using?

Wow that was quick, I wasn't expecting to see an answer for a good hour or so. Anyways thank you both so much I'll be sure to try that next time. I'm glad I'm not the only one this happens to.

I had the same thing happen, but it was constant. So I just reinstalled FF. All my settings were left intact and the problem went away.

Firstly, I agree with Redlemon that something may be going on with your extensions, or possibly a custom skin if you're using one. Also, if you haven't checked for adware or spyware, maybe youshould as htis is th ekind of odd behaviour that really sends up red flags that something is going on.

And Prgma's right too, it's just a bit of a pain in the arse to have to open TM everytime you want to quit a program. By the way Pragma, nice.sig you have there! And here I am thinking that you were joking!

Peace,

Pierre

Haha, thanks - I told you that I'd use it, it makes me laugh. Now that I've got a job doing network security, it's only truer

I got sick of this problem a while ago and tried reinstalling, but it didn't seem to fix - so I went through and nuked all of my extensions and preferences, then reinstalled and it fixed. Hopefully you won't have to go to this extent.

If you want to try a new, clean profile, here's my favorite graphic for "what is safe to transfer to the new profile without causing more corruption":

How did I never notice that? I probably shouldn't tell you about libpr0n, then...
