hardware suggestions needed
Hey everyone,
I'm putting together a linux pc as a multimedia center for my living room and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a couple of items: What video card w/ tv out is supported w/ linux drivers that's good for playing dvd's? Any suggestions for an IR remote control (USB maybe) that i can replace the mouse with? Thanks, robert |

For IR remotes... You can use a universal remote with lirc you can build or buy a IR reciver. I use the one built into my TV tuner. The ATI remote wonder also has a linux driver, but you have to compile it. nVidia cards seem to be rather well supported, but some of them have crappy TV out.

From what I understand is that Linux has very good support for Nvidia display cards but I have no idea how well the TV out function is supported.

If you're buying a new video card, nVidia is the ONLY way to go for Linux; they have complete support for Linux, up to and including updated drivers. ALL functions available in Windows are available in Linux with nVidia. I plan on buying one ASAP.
