Nice LCD keyboard.

It has little LCD's under each key so you can change the look of the k'board to suit language and function.

Fantastic - I want one already.

Think they'll make a retrofit laptop version?

Glory's Sun 07-18-2005 07:26 AM

*drool* I want one ..

how much are these things??

nvm..I read they aren't out yet..

can't wait

Confederate 07-18-2005 09:12 AM

yea I heard that those are just renderings and the real product may or may not look as good as that

Jeff 07-18-2005 09:15 AM

That's pretty amazing.

kutulu 07-18-2005 09:16 AM

At first I was thinking 'what the hell would you want an lcd keyboard for?' but the pic makes total sense. That would be the ultimate gaming keyboard.

portwineboy 07-18-2005 09:29 AM

It's called the Optimus....it's OLED, not LCD. The makers say they are going to try and produce this thing. Pretty neat. I think that OLEDs are heavy so the keyboard may be quite weighty.

Good. At least then it won't break too easily when I go banging around on it.

Cool stuff. I'll wait to see what the final product looks like and how much it's going to cost (the same as a good cell phone?) before jumping on the bandwagon.

Even if the final product is crap, it's an interesting idea to keep tinkering with.

MontanaXVI 07-18-2005 01:01 PM

this made me think of this keyboard I found while browsing the EQ2 site.

http://www.zboard.com/us/

I do not think it is LCD or OLED but it still looks pretty cool.

Cuatela 07-19-2005 06:24 AM

I like that one too, but the LCD (or OLCD) keyboard just looks...awesome.

portwineboy 07-19-2005 09:58 AM

OLEDs (Organic Light Emitting Diodes) are pretty neat. They use less power than LCDs due to no need for backlighting.

More here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organic...emitting_diode

My only concern about giving up my keyboard was answered:
From their web site: Some day it will be split (and made “ergonomic”).

And I'm sure we'll eventually see keyboard viruses...

CSflim 07-21-2005 07:26 PM

Gasp! I want one...especilly if they look as good as the pics make out...

 true. The possibilities are endless.

sadistikdreams 07-21-2005 09:43 PM

From the people who brought you the cursor mouse.

This is pretty awesome though... Don't know how much I'd use it, but still...

sailor 07-22-2005 05:24 AM

Pretty daggon cool.

I've never liked split keyboards though, I hope they offer one that isnt as well.

Glory's Sun 07-22-2005 06:12 AM

I love ergonomic keyboards. So much easier and faster (for me at least). I hope they aren't just pullin our chains about this thing. I'd gladly pay $300 for one

Johnny Pyro 07-22-2005 06:28 AM

That is awsome. What store and how much? Would Best Buy have those?!

Not yet, this is a prototype/mockup.

Good interview with the designer here http://www.frycookonvenus.com/index....rticle&sid=987

The Keyboard of God

http://www.artlebedev.com/portfolio/optimus/

this is the coolest friggin keyboard. The keys have pixels that can change and be imported for ur pc or something.

i hear u can import gifs on it too!

COOLNESS!

optik_nerve 08-19-2005 07:02 PM

I'll take one. It seems to be compatable with Mac.

Stiltzkin 08-19-2005 07:32 PM

Holy crap this owns.

That is easily the coolest thing ever, long with the the fact that each key is a tiny little screen. I'm definitely getting one when they release it.

Lwang9276 08-19-2005 07:42 PM

holy cow.... jus looking at it makes me feel all tingling inside. Cant wait to get this and just be like check out my keyboard!!! lol and of course playin cs

MikeSty 08-19-2005 08:13 PM

This is probably the fifth time I've read a post about this in the past two months. It's a l33t keyboard, but far too expensive.

majik_6 08-19-2005 09:55 PM

Wow!

I'd definitely get one of these...it'd make it a lot easier to remember all the keyboard shortcuts in Illustrator and Photoshop.

It'd make a great partner with the Wacom 19" display.

jujueye 08-19-2005 10:04 PM

Expensive? I didn't see the price.... Where where!!!!!

Coppertop 08-19-2005 10:58 PM

Whoa. Way cool.

It will cost less than a good mobile phone.

It will be real.

It will be OS-independent (at least it’s going to be able to work in some default state with any OS).

It will support any language or layout.

Moscow is the capital of Russia.

Each key could be programmed to produce any sequence.

It will be an open-source keyboard, SDK will be available.

Some day it will be split (and made “ergonomic”).

It will most likely use the OLED technology (e-paper is sooo slow).

Our studio is located two blocks from the Kremlin.

It will feature a key-saver.

Keys could be animated when needed.

It has a numeric keypad because we love it.

There’s no snow in Moscow in summer.

It will be available worldwide (why not?)

OEM is possible (why not?)

If only I could afford one.

Gatorade Frost 08-19-2005 11:13 PM

Assuming it's comfortable to type on I don't see why I'd ever own another keyboard aside from that one after I bought it.

connyosis 08-20-2005 02:31 AM

I want one! I can spare food and rent for a few months if necessary...

sailor 08-20-2005 06:37 AM

Man, that is badass. Me want.

bobophil 08-20-2005 09:05 AM

less than a good mobile phone... that narrows it down... still, im saving up now, it looks like its gunna be 'spensive

Hardknock 08-21-2005 10:36 PM

Nice. I want one.

jvwgtr 08-23-2005 07:08 AM

I'd love to have one of these...but I'll stick with my Zboard in the meantime.
They have special inserts for lots of games, Photoshop, Office, etc., that make life a little easier.

chance 08-23-2005 10:36 AM

I am definitely getting one of these. It has such a classy look to it. Nice design.
