Game installers make my computer hang...
For some reason game installers are hanging up on me now. The FEAR demo had this problem , I open the installer exe and my desktop stops responding and I have to do a hard reboot. I eventually re-dl'd it and the exe opened after a long number of seconds.
Now, I am trying to install the DAoC 14 day trial and the same thing happens. I click the exe, I hear my hard drive spinning and the desktop (or if its in a folder, the folder) becomes non-responsive, and I wait for a long time and nothing happens, again requiring a hard reboot unless I manage to open the task manager through all the lag and kill the installation process which isn't taking any CPU and about 68k of memory. This is very annoying and I am at my wits end. I defragged my HD fully, it did not help. Anyone have any insight? My specs are: 1GB ram 3.4 ghz GF6800 It's a dell... I'd be formatting. I hate to be at a complete loss of help, but if my computer were doing that, I would honestly format without thinking twice about it. My PC has been slow with installers before, and when it happens, I simply format and reinstall Windows. That fixes it everytime. -Lasereth

Makes sense. I bet it was scanning every installer you tried rigorously to make sure it wasn't badware. I was gonna mention turning off virus scanners...it looks like it was a similar problem!

Yeah. ZA used to be decent but it keep getting more and more bloated (anti spyware, etc) and even if you disable the additional components it would monitor ridiculous things like "Do you want X program to monitor keystrokes" and etc. I am now planning to use Sygate.
