DVD Burning In Europe - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

I'm moving to Germany for a year in a week here, and will be taking my external DVD burner with me. What I'm wondering is are the blank DVDs there the same as here? Do I need to bring a bunch with me? I know the normal DVDs there are a different region, but I don't know anything about (or if it even matters) the DVD-Rs there.

I think they're the same. Is your burner both + and - ? You might wanna look for a region unlocker on the burner.

Yeah, my burner is +/-.

What do you mean look for a region unlocker? Does region matter for burned DVDs?

i think i'm qualified to answer this Q

+r's are more common than they are in the US, that's what i usually used.
you do not need to bring any blanks with you.
they are a bit pricier than in the us, as is everything.

a 50-spindle of Platinum dvd+r's will be around 25 euro i think.
quality is decent.

there are also tdk's that are plentiful, but watch out for super-cheap ones.

region codes you should only need to worry about when copying/ripping a dvd, but if dvddecrypter can't handle it, use AnyDVD.

any other Q's i should also be able to answer, if you have any.

oh, and of course you'll need a different power cord for the external, and it'a power supply needs to do 230.

damn.. and here I was thinking it was going to be about piles of crappy movies on DVD being burned....

Haha, thanks SiN. As always, you were most helpful. Glad to hear there's nothing I need to worry about then--I didn't want to have to schlep a bunch of blank DVDs across the ocean.
