I've a 120 gig disk that i just want to write some 0's on.
through windows, not dos.
quick enough to finish in a day.
less concerned about security, just want cleaner than a format.
prefer freeware, non is ok too if it's easily findable.

Looks like you've already gotten your situation taken care of, however I'm partial to DBAN:

Darik's Boot and Nuke ("DBAN") is a self-contained boot floppy [or CD] that securely wipes the hard disks of most computers. DBAN will automatically and completely delete the contents of any hard disk that it can detect, which makes it an appropriate utility for bulk or emergency data destruction.

Not for Windows, but it does the job. It doesn't care about the disk type or filesystem, it blows away everything as long as it can see the HDD. Great for clean zero-ing as well as security. Completely zaps the boot sector, partition table, data, you name it. Just throw the floppy/cd in, boot, and viola.

I'm confused. Why did you say this? Does it matter if you boot to the CD / floppy???

It's more of a service utility. It blows away whatever it finds attached. Useful but not for the faint of heart, a system with remaining useful HD's attached, or for everyday free-space wiping. If you managed to run it on a booted box it would blow away the booted O/S.

I'm pretty sure DBAN works on Windows. It used to at least.
