Yesterday, I was trying to take a screenshot of a video using Windows Media Player and the GIMP. I was annoyed to discover the video actually played inside the screenshot. A feature of Windows I guess, which is kinda cool in how it works, but highly annoying in that it kept me from doing what I wanted to do.

Although, playing the movie in Quicktime solved the problem, I'm still trying to figure out how a static screenshot showed video as it played. The screenshot was taken first by hitting "print screen", then by using the "acquire screenshot" feature in the GIMP. Both accomplished the same effect.

all you have to do is set your video acceleration rate to about 50% and you can take screenshots. There's a hotkey for it in WMP but I can't remember what it is

i usually set it to 0% and have never had a problem yet
