iPod volume control not working
I've looked through a couple hundred google searches & couldn't find an answer... I hope someone here might be able to help.
My ipod's volume control doesn't work. I do the volume up/down thing and the bar goes up and down, which indicates to me that the sound should also be going up and down. The problem is that the volume remains at full blast. I can't even put headphones on without risking an eardrum rupture. The ipod isn't docked or anything... headphones are in the headphone jack. I even bought the ipod headphones w/ remote volume control & no dice. Again, the volume control makes the volume display move, but the sound remains maxed. Ipod model is a 40gb clickwheel (M9268LL). I've used the updater 2005-06-26 to restore to factory settings, and the problem remains. Anyone else have or heard of this problem? |

Sounds like the only way you are going to get it fixed is by sending it back to apple or have a repair shop do it for you. Hopefully it's still under warrenty. I'm not a big fan of iPods, more of a fan of JetAudio and Iriver products, so I'm not that big of a help here.

I'm gonna say it's a hardware issue. Send it back, it's really easy.

yeah, sending it back is pretty easy.
one more thing you could try is letting the battery completely die. this is another way to reset the device. when it is "dead," recharge and see if your problem is gone. i had some problems with the << and >> functionality, and it disappeared after i did this. (however, the ipod had problems because i ended up getting a new one later anyway.) |

If the volume indicator on the iPod goes up and down, then the real problem is with either the headphone jack or the headphones you are using.
Have you tried searching through here: http://www.ipodlounge.com ??? This is easily my best resource for iPod problems. Use the reset functionality in the instructions. They work pretty good. It easily cleared up some odd behavior on my pod. |
