invalid disc message on startup
first off, no, there isn't a disc in the drives...
when starting, i get the invalid disc error, same error as if you had a floppy in the drive when you started it... but there are no discs in the drive... i put the system restore CD in and that ran... it ran though a bunch of stuff and ended up leaving command prompt up with A:/ i tried typing in c:/win and stuff like that but nothing really worked...... HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!

Hard drive most likely failed. The restore disc works because the computer is booting off of the CDROM drive, and not the hard drive. When it tried to access the HDD, it failed, and went to the next available drive, the floppy drive (A.
Do you hear the normal noises coming from the HDD when you boot the computer? Try taking the case off and turning it on and listening closely to hear anything funny.

the hard drive seems to be accessible, my dad was doing stuff in it, but it's totally fillled by my brother, soo he was trying to use the DIR fucntion to delete files from the hard drive... he got 130megs free now but whatever program he's trying to run on it requires 200megs free, soo he has to keep trying to delete files off the hard drive with command prompt untill he gets to 200 free... i'm not sure what he's been doing with it.. i just got home and he was on the phone with someone about it i took the cover off last night and ran the computer, i didn't see anything abnomral inside of it and it sounded good...
