My internet is farking up
Just so you know, I've tried this on both IE and FireFox.
For some reason, when I try to go to certain sites, including TFP, it will say "http://www.urliamtryingtoreach.com cannot be found." Of course it doesn't say that exactly, just replace the funky looking url with any actual URL. This happens with TFP, Yahoo! Mail, and many other sites. But then on other mainstream sites, like Google and Yahoo!'s main site (wierd), it works perfectly. I've been trying to get on TFP since last night, and just now was able to get on. This is getting quite annoying. Also, whenever I click on links that have redirect pages, like "http://www.urlredirectpage.com/blahblahblah=http://sitelinkedto", the "://" and any non-alphabet or numerical text will show up in funky code like "%20" etc. This is all quite annoying. How do I fix this? Thanks in advance! |

I won't be able to help, but in my experience "%20" is a replacement for "spaces" in a URL.
An example would be: http://www.url.com/name of image.jpg Would look like: http://www.url.com/name%20of%20image.jpg Good%20Luck... |

I have a comcast cable connection.
I'm not too sure what ping and address from DOS actually means. :-p And it's not just the spaces that have replacement coding. Actually I think spaces should have that coding and it should work with that. But also the "://" have replacement coding, which makes it not work. Like with a URL redirect page, an original would look like this: "http://www.urlredirectpage.com/blahblahurl=http://www.sitelinkedto.com/pageonsite.html" But in my computer's case, it looks like this after I click on the link: "http://www.urlredirectpage.com/blahblahurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.sitelinkedto.com%2Fpageonsite.html" Last edited by CityOfAngels; 07-12-2005 at 01:23 PM.. |

the %3a etc. is encoding, same as a space - it is probably done on purpose.
do you have a hosts table (\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts). If you open this file in notepad, what is in it? (this is a type of local DNS which can be used to override what you see when you go to a specific site). If this is full of records, then this is a sign you probably have a virus/spyware installed.

It's probably spyware. A while ago I went to use the family computer and 90% of websites couldn't connect without typing http://. The odd thing is that one of the times, IE told me it was spyware. I was taken aback by that one.
But anyways, a quick scan-n-clean fixed it up. |

Thanks for the tips everybody!
I just checked the hosts table and all that's there is my local host. I ran spybot s&d and it did detect and get rid of stuff, but the problems are still apparent. Here are my results after pinging certain sites: www.tfproject.org/tfp - "Ping request could not find host..." www.tfproject.org - "Ping request could not find host..." mail.yahoo.com - First ping timed out. Second try had 25% loss. www.yahoo.com - 0% loss. www.google.com - 0% loss. www.nba.com - 0% loss. www.gamefaqs.com - 0% loss. www.fark.com - 0% loss. www.hobbyinsider.net - "Ping request could not find host..." www.beckett.com - "Ping request could not find host..." Any idea on what's farking up? |

My guess would be that your DNS servers are asstastic. My ISP has terrible ones that hardly ever refresh, so I use alternate ones. Change your primary DNS to 4.2.2.1 and your secondary to 4.2.2.2, problem solved. If you don't know how to do this, post your OS and connection type and I'll give you more specific instructions.
EDIT - Oh, forgot to ask, but how do you do connecting directly to ip addresses? Or pinging them, do you get any loss that way?

One thing I see ie messes up with is saved logins.. like http://loginassword@members.url.com (usually porn heh)
My firefox allows it easily... But I'd like it to work with everything.. Any fixes for IE? |
