Direct3D and Dell Radeon 9800Pro
I remember bringing up this topic back in the day with TFPv3 but I don't remember if anyone was actually able to help stop the problems I was having then.
It only happens when I upgrade my drivers be to it OmegaDrivers or Catalyst (any version but at the moment specifically Catalyst 5.6). It doesn't happens always though but seems to be more frequent now for some reason. The issue that comes up is that everytime I update the drivers, Direct3D just stops working. I try uninstalling the previous drivers and installing new ones but nothing happens, its just craps out on me. I always end up having to format because I can never get Direct3D back to working order on a gaming machine to top it off. Awhile back I thought I could fix it by flashing the BIOS. I read somewhere that Dell uses a proprietary BIOS that I thought might cause the problem but that didn't help but I did get higher speeds since it was originally a 9800Non-Pro. I was hoping maybe someone has come across this issue before or maybe I just got crapped over with the proprietary card. Any advice at this point would be great, formatting gets really old fast. |

I know that my boss at work ordered a Dell computer and both the nVidia 4200 64MB vid card and the Creative Audigy card were "special" Dell versions. That might be your problem as well. He had to order a replacement sound card. It shipped with no driver CD, weird. And the Creative driver did not work. He had to download a "special" driver from Dell. Screw that! I'd check with Dell. I know the following does not help your current situation, but problems like yours are why I build my own. Screw proprietary crapola.

Ah man... that would explain the horrible problems I have with my Audigy 2 card too now wouldn't it.
Yeah proprietary is crap, never doing that again. I got the card working now after a format (OmegaDrivers based on Catalyst 5.6). They seem to be working just great especially with the faster speeds the BIOS gave it (I can OC even higher then before now too). I think I keep screwing up when updating though because I never delete the older drivers first but I rather only test that out when new drivers come out so I don't have to format twice in a month. Thanks |
