Dell inspiron 8000 power snafu.
I have a dell inspiron 8000 that won't power on. I saw you can remove battery and components. I have tried all this and all I get is the power light comes on, followed by the hdd light and the battery light. they are only on for a few seconds then nothing. I tried a friends adapter and same thing. Something that I find odd is that the adapter does not get warm when I have it plugged in. Is this a symptom of my problem? I saw that it might be the power board (AKA charging board) is this the same as the power socket? Is the powerboard the motherboard? Last question can the power socket be replaced or is it part of the motherboard?
Thanks in advance Kurt |

If the green light on the AC Adapter is on, then your AC Adapter is probably ok.
Otherwise, you will most likely have to replace the motherboard. Most everything is integrated.

I can get you a direct number to tech support if you want? Otherwise give me some information and I'll wander down there on my lunch break.
I love working at Dell, hehe...

I used to have a Dell laptop - pop the cell out and it had a row of LEDs to show charge levels.
Also - have you tried running it up without the cell in, but hooked up to the adaptor? Thirdly - it could be the monitor that died - hook it up to an external CRT.

I just went through all of this with my Inspiron 1150. They had me take out everything from battery to CD drive. I am now waiting for tech support to come replace my motherboard on Wednesday. My laptop is not even a year old. Did I do something to make this happen? How can I prevent it from happening again after they fix it?
