AMD sues Intel
I can't believe nobody has posted this yet...
AMD has sued Intel for antitrust violations. Lots of dirty stuff in the 48-page complaint filed in federal district court. I work for AMD and a lot of the stuff in that complaint is news to me. I always knew Intel played dirty...never knew they were playing this dirty... |
I think AMD has a valid case considering Japan found Intel guilty of violating it's Monopoly Policies. It's going to be interesting to see this saga unfold in the next few months/years.

Man...not another microsoft kind of anti-trust case...
What kind results is AMD looking for if they win? |
they are looking for financial and punitive damages iirc
edit: here's an article on it: http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9584_22-5765844.html?tag=nl and here's the reply from the Intel CEO: http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9584_22-5768789.html |
I've converted to AMD since '88 and haven't looked back. If you can't beat them fair and square, buy your votes - Intel. If there is just one chip maker in the world, then all us PC/Mac users are in trouble.....prices are no longer dictated by competition because there is no competition.
|
AMD just won in Japan, the EU is still investigating, and now this ball starts rolling. This suit will take forever, just like the Microsoft suit. I'm an AMD man, and hope they bring it down on Intel, because AMD definitely has the better product right now.
|
AMD won me over with Athlon and I've never looked back.
Now macs are moving over to intel...wonderful. Another reason to hate the damn things. |
Wow. It's pretty incongruous to have a fair-trade case argued in Japan.
On the other hand, if there were only one chipmaker for them, PC owners would be in the same boat as Apple owners have been. |
I just showed my support to AMD again by upgrading my aging PC (2 year old...) to AMD 64, 2800+...not the fastest but quite a big step up from the XP 2200+. There Intel!!!!

I think you'll find the move to Intel well received by mac people. Anyway, one has to admit that both chip companies make good processors. They both make good products, it's just the execution and business ethics that stink things up. Maybe this will put some smaller chip makers into the market and create more competition.. that would be a great thing. |
Here's a little bit of an update.

Haha. Intel sues AMD for copying their chip, loses, AMD improves the chip and becomes the best chip maker in the world.
AMD turns around and sues Intel. PWN. |
