Those who use GoDaddy.com as a host..

I have a couple questions. First off, how come website.com doesn't work and takes me only to the godaddy.com temporary page, but www.website.com does work? How can I make website.com work without the www?

Second, for sub-domains, it says I can create a subdomain in the form of blah.website.com, after I set one up though, it's actually website.com/blah.
How can I change this to the former as I thought it would be?

Thanks for the help!

It sounds like you have DNS management issues.
Are you using GoDaddy's DNS? Or another name server?
If you look at your settings, you'll see that you have a host entry for www that resolves to the IP address, but not the blank host name (I think GoDaddy lists it as "@").

For your subdomain, you may have to use their setup that has you forward your subdomain to another directory, like "blah" forwards to www.website/blah.

I hope that helps a little...

.

For some reason all it took was some time to get it to work doing website.com didn't have to change anything. Im working on getting the subdomains going but if I can't it's no biggie just testing some stuff.

DNS changes aren't instant-on creatures. When you do anything besides a simple name addition it can take some time before the changes are reflected by your local system.

It's likely you (or anyone for that matter) first tried connecting to blah.com before they had all records active. Your DNS server or local stack cached the miss, and it took awhile to expire. Many large nets, especially those used by large end-user ISPs like AOL, crank their timers way up to reduce DNS overhead. It doesn't normally cause problems beyond the first couple days when you're making lots of basic decisions.
