Having issues...

I recently reformated my computer due to some issues I was having with my video card driver - namely, the damn thing kept crashing.

Since I reformated (non-destructive) I have been having issues with what I assume to be my video card, although I imagine it could be a number of things.

Basically, nothing is smooth. Movies seem to play alright, but everything else seems to be jumpy. I am confused - games I play are not near as smooth as they used to be, but even when I drag the mouse across the screen it is no longer smooth - it basically jumps a bit at a time until I get it where I want it.

Is there something wrong with my refresh rate, or video card, or all of the above...? I'm at a loss folks - hopefully you can help me out

I installed the latest drivers, and my computer no longer crashes - but this problem began immediately after reformating the computer.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

**For referance, I believe I have an Nvidia Geforce 5800 with 256 megs of ram. I also have a gig of memory, so I don't think that is an issue. 2.1 Gig processor... Hopefully that helps.

Thanks again everyone

Did you also install the latest DirectX driver?

Some games need Direct3d or OpenGL to run. Check your game requirements.

I have.

Like I said, I would be much less confused as to what is going on if the problem was only with games, but even something as simple as moving my mouse causes issues.

Anyone else have any ideas?

I assume you got the latest drivers for your video card. What about VGA drivers for your monitor? That might make a difference. If you can't find the CD, check Windows Update. Mine are surprisingly on there.

Also, does your motherboard have an integrated video chip? Sometimes those don't play nice with video cards and need to be disabled.
