xbox mods
I was wondering if anybody has installed a mod chip into their xbox and how they have worked out. I just got one and was thinking about purchasing a mod chip, but I'm not sure about the installation and if it would be worth the time and effort.

maybe i have a modded xbox.....
maybe i have 800 snes games on it maybe i have about 500 nes games on it maybe i have sega games on it maybe i can play ps1 games on it if i ftp them from my computer to the hd oh did i mention maybe i have 40 xbox games on an upgraded 100 gig hd if i have one of these it rocks ;) |
|
Maybe I have a modded xbox too.
Maybe I have an upgraded 200 GB HD. Maybe I have an XTender, which allows me to add up to two more extra HD's. Maybe I have a total of 57 XBOX games and counting, all on my HD. Maybe I have a bunch of DVD's ripped to my HD, too. Maybe I just beat Resident Evil 2...ON MY XBOX. Maybe I didn't have to do any installation, 'cause maybe I bought a pre-mod at modchipman.com. |
I have really been thinking about modding my XBox. I don't have broadband, so I don't use XBox Live. I see no downside.
|
all I can say is that it was the best $200 I have ever spent that didn't include drugs and hookers or titties and beer.

Maybe I want to get an X-Box
Maybe I want to have it pre-modded Maybe Im thinking about a 300Gig Hard drive like this one: $129 Maybe one of those groovy color cases & a lcd screen in the front. Maybe I dont know what kind of chip is best. Maybe Id like to know how much something like this would set me back. ;) |
I would start here http://www.teamxecuter.com/ and check out all of the "Official Xecuter Stores" to the left and price from there.
If you want to buy your own hard drive and install it, you could probably save a few bucks, but then you have to crack your case to do it. It might be easier just to get an upgraded HD through the store. I would figure on ~$400.00US Keep in mind that I haven't done this yet, just my best estimate from the reseach I've done. |

I actually paid about $560.00 US for my whole set up. But then again I got the 200GB HD, the fan, the Xtender, and I got the Xecuter 3 chip, which was the best chip you could get when I bought it.

lol
maybe no one here wants to self incriminate themselves, so when hal sells "geberl peoples names" microsoft to support the forums "they"dont get in trouble ;) or maybe everyone just followed my maybe idea ;) |

If I was to teach myself to solder using internet web pages... maybe I could have spent hours practicing on an old network card and if I did all that I could spend hours on websites like www.xbox-scene.com figuring out how to do a mod....I would make THIS:
180GB Hard Drive Upgrade the ATA cables, Boost the fan speed add a Mod chip with LED display and 3 Bios caches (for loading differant boots, including a secret unmoded version of an XBox so you can play on XBox Live) a few case and controler vinals just so you would know its not a regular XBox. Customer userinterface and dashboard I would have built by myself membership to something like gamefly so I can rent games and then dump them to the HD and send them back! If I had an XBox moded...thats what I would do! |

i wonder if it's maybe possible to have a modded xbox and stream Tivo files natively from it or better yet the ones that at are transferred via TivoToGo using WMP10/DirectShow codecs.
that is if one maybe had a modded xbox. |
I Love my first modded xbox so much that I got two more done!
So Yes, I have 3 modded XBOXes, which I enjoy dearly For the chip installed cost me $90 with the HDD install... so an xbox with a 200 gig cost me roughly $400 CDN including the XBOX and the HDD.. To Cynthetiq, I believe it would be possible if you XBOX is set up the right way.. not to stream but to maybe copy over and watch.. cause Ive heard of People running Linux on XBOX and I know that some things for the TIVO use linux.. but, i dont really know much about TIVOs Im an XBOX person :) |
Maybe people are fearing to directly say they have done something illegal.
Maybe I should go back to download some music. |
Actualy, there is some Gray law involved in XBox modification.....
I baught the XBox...I own it. I can't make an Xbox because I would be infringing on copyrights of Microsoft but SINCE I baught the XBox I can do what I want... Turn it into a toaster... Clean the guts out and make a fish tank outta it... Solder 12 wires to specifice nodes all around and about the mother board and wire in a chip specificialy designed to by pass certain functions of the device... Gray law: I can't by-pass the Bios and load my own operating system on the XBox product because of end user aggrements and contracting developed by microsoft...BUT it IS my property. Microsoft can't really stand up in court with this but they sure could make you spend a lot of money arguing the legalize with them. LAW: Reproduction of copyrighted materials in any form with out expressed authorization of copyright owner is AGANST federal law (Copying games or DVD;s to an XBox is illegal) Law of the digital age: this gets very complicated the Major componants of copyright law where developed before the printing press and big chunks where added specific to addressing rePRINTING stuff. the problem with this is that the core of copyright law never had the incling of digital transfer... ANY digital transfer of date (copyrighted or not) inatly makes a "copy". Copywrite law worked well when you considered the diferance between owning a book and lending it to someone else. they have the 1 copy and I don't so there is no copywrite infringment. but I can't email a friend an eBook, because I still retain a copy and now they have one..(actualy worse then that, the email archive server on my side may retain a copy and ANOTHER copy on they're email server, up to 4 Copywrite infrigements right there) even funnier is something like Bit-Torrent, depending on the server and the number of hosting users one completed transfer could be achived utilizing thousands of COPY's of an item Its all very confusing but the end point is that current copywrite law is there to make sure that owners of something nice actualy get credit for they're work, either finacial or just abstract. The digital age and all the differant ways to spawn copies of information and products makes this a crazy set up. I guess we will see how this all pans out...until then... I guess I'll just stick with the fact that I may have understood how to modify an XBox and I may have the capabilities to copy games and media to it but I would not want to break any laws by doing so...but if I did it would be a kool thing to have and I'd play with it all the time. |
Well all of us have broken laws. Aren't they meant to be broken? If I were smart enough to modify my PS2 so it could worked as my computer, radio, MP3 player ( I mean a jukebox with a hard drive attached) then I certainly would do it.
I think those type(copyrights and such) of laws are there for 2 things: prevent an extreme exploitation of those products (like a mass illegal production of tricked out XBoxes that'd sell for twice as cheap) and also for the companies to make huge amounts of money (lawsuits). So.. I'll just go on doing whatever I can to modify these electronic products; my sister's boyfriend is a little gearhead and actually made a little audio line-in in his car radio (with also a little switch to decide radio/tape, or line-in). He also opens up his little MP3 player and tries to figure out if there's something he can do to make it better. I think its cool. |
look on the forums at xbox-scene for a modder named smonkiningit - he is excellent - I have refered at least a dozen xbox's to him.
