9600 on a EP-8RDA Pro?
I want to build a new 'puter, and my friend picked an EPoX EP-8RDA+PRO with a Sapphire Radeon 9600XT. Sounds good, except that I read one review on the aforementioned mobo, and it seems that 9700's don't get along with this mobo. I know, I'm getting a 9600, but I'm still scared. Why? Because I just spent an hour reading horror stories about EPox motherboards and 9700 cards on various forums. Should I have any reason to think that a 9600 would have the same problems?
Some horror stories for your enjoyment: http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthre...ight=9600+epox http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthre...ight=9600+epox http://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windo...r-Standby.html In most cases it seems that it is a voltage problem with the 9700 AIW, and buying a bigger power supply or adjusting voltage settings on the motherboard--particularly on the AGP slot and the memory (by "memory" I guess they mean RAM)--fixes the problem sometimes. I don't really know too much about hardware though so excuse any ignorance I may have displayed in this post. |
Just make sure you update to a stable / good BIOS ASAP ...
I've never ever heard of EPoX so I can't say much other than generic brands aren't always as reliable as most name brands. |
