Problem With New ATIRadeon X700 Pro

Alright guys, I need some help. I just installed a new ati x700 pro into my computer. I installed the cards software and drivers. Now, my computer boots up only sometimes. It will get to a certain point during booting up and the monitor will shut off. Another thing, is that when it is in windows, it really chugs. Almost like the graphics can't catch up to the processes. I have an ASUS A7V266 1.4 gig motherboard, and a 300W power supply. Any suggestions? Could it be that I need to download graphix drivers for the board? Or does my power supply not have the umph it needs? Thanks for your help guys! And sorry for the long post!

Sounds to me like it's being throttled by the power supply and/or the drivers aren't installed correctly. Sluggish movements are often associated with drivers that aren't installed or not installed correctly, and I've even heard of a low-quality PSU making a videocard run slower than it's supposed to. It's probably some weird driver issue...which sometimes have to be cured by formatting the hard drive.

What card did you have before the x700P?

Any problems safe booting?

Did you change any of your motherboard's AGP BIOS settings?

The simple first effort would be to safe boot and uninstall _all_ video card drivers. Reboot, install from the CD, see what happens.

Hey thanks guys for the replys. I had an Nvidia Gforce2 MMX 400 64MB card in there before. I may have to try the safe booting suggestion, because I can't find any drivers for my motherboard that has to do with graphics capabilities. It runs sluggish when it gets into windows, most of the time it will go through the windows loading screen and then go blank. I haven't changed any of the BIOS options either, would there be something that I need to change? hopefully drivers solves the problem and i won't have to format Thanks again!

I just looked up the card and it suprised me that being a newer card, that it does not require power to the card directly. I'm agree with the psu not working up to par.

Check ati's site for the tech support and get them on the horn and find out.

Thanks shadowalker, yeah, The card does require connection to the PSU. I tried safe booting and reinstalling the drivers, it was still doing the same thing. I've got an email into tech support, and I'm going to call them after work today! Thanks again for your help everyone!
