Internet Connection Problem

Ok sence i guess 11am wednesday. My internet disconnects are reconnects when ever it wants to, but lately its getting worse it disconnects and reconnects every I got to say 2-3 mins now and I want to know if there is a way for me to fix the problem here?

I have checked all cable connections and I even unplugged the modem to see if that would reset it but that didn't work, and sense im not a computer whiz thats why im here asking, before I phone the cable company and get mad at them!

I hope this posts :D

Do you have onboard network adapter or a pci card? Check the card and see if it's seated securely? Try a different network card if you have one available, same with network cable. It's also possible the cable company is doing maintenance or upgrade.

how do I check which one I got?

Shows you how much I know about computers...!

Is this a desktop computer or a laptop/ Mac or PC? What Operating System?

Since it happened so suddenly, I'd almost bet that it is maintenance that is going on...

What you might try is just renewing your IP Address

On a PC, go to Start/Run and type CMD and hit enter (This is a DOS Prompt, if you have an easier way of getting there, then by all means)

Now from the DOS Window - type IPCONFIG /RENEW - and hit enter...
The machine will chug for a few moments, and it will reset it's IP Address...

See if that holds the connection now

Its a desktop computer and a custom built PC(well gaming machine)

and I got Windows XP Home Edition!

I will try the DOS thing

Edit: Tried DOS and need to test but it doesn't look like the IP changed...but the internet loaded really fast!

Well sashime76 I will ask my bro tomorrow after he gets home from work, and maybe he knows what we got in this thing, he had the damn thing built!

If it's onboard (built onto the motherboard) then it's likely next to the USB ports. If it's PCI, then it sits in one of the slots, on the back of the PC you will see a bunch of removeable panels.

Funny, I had built PCs for my brother and my brother in law. I'm their go-to guy for PC questions / screwups.

Oh ya its gotta be built in, the only other things I got in the slots are my graphics card and sound card.

Uhhh... I had a similar problem a long time ago.

This might sound odd, but how many connections are there from the modem/router into that computer?

The person who set my network up ran a cable from the modem into my machine (USB), and then an ethernet (to USB adapter). I have no idea why. At the time I had no knowledge of networks. Odd as he works for the airforce as a tech, and i'm still not even A+ :O

I've your on Comcast, Roadrunner, or Cox they've been having systemic issues for almost a month now that cause pretty much exactly the problems that you're describing. I'd guess that they're upgrading something that's causing rolling outages, but they're not telling end users.

Good luck! Go get DSL :) cable sucks.
