Using RAID IDE channels as normal IDE channels?
OK, tell me if I am completely off base with this...
I have an Asus K8V motherboard. Two IDE channels and two more for the onboard RAID. Problem is, Ive filled up the two normal IDE channels. Is there any way to use the RAID channels as normal IDE channels (i.e. just plug more hard drives into them, no RAID involved), or am just dreaming? Im trying to avoid having to buy a PCI card just because I dont want to spend money nor do I want to wait for it to get to me. Thanks for the help. |
Yes, you should be able to do that. Just don't turn on the RAID controller.
I have had other mobo's that have a raid controller on them, but I never turned the RAID on and just use them as extra IDE controllers. |
Or if the RAID controller is like the ones on my P4P800 boards you should be able to set their mode to IDE and disable the RAID functionality.

Sweet, Ill give it a shot soon. Thanks for the help!

hard drives will work, but cdrom drives may not, try to balance the drives on as many chanels as you can, spread the load.
