Contact Management
I need some help. I am a PC user who has just landed in an office full of Mac users...
I have been using Act! and am *very* happy with what it does for Contact Management. Can anyone suggest a piece of software that can do one of the following: a) provide the same quality of software and features as Act on a Mac platform, b) the same but cross platform (ie work between mac and PC) c) make these mac users switch to PC... I need the following features: Share the database between multiple users track sales group contacts in user defined groups Palm compatiblity User defined fields Help me, please.

I know essentially nothing about it... but would hipergate :. Free Open Source CRM Groupware Intranet and Content Manager Solutions do it? I think it's web-based...

I can't find anything that is as good as Act in either a MAC or a MAC/PC version... I am just going to have to convince these lousy Mac users to convert... most likely it will be me doing the conversion though. Has anyone used the Contact Manager that comes with Tiger?

If you're not doing graphic/video editting/development the change to PC should be simple And why can't you be PC and let them have their glorified paperweights?

Could you use the Virtual PC program that Microsoft/Apple offers? It might be kind of cost prohibitive but it might solve your problem. The Mac users can keep their Macs and you can have your Act! There is information about Virtual PC here.

Not that I doubted you but well, I'm stubborn. I went to the Microsoft site for Virtual PC and they have a Google group set up to answer questions for the software. I found a thread here that talks about using Virtual PC 7.0.1 and ACT! 2005. It appears that it can be done but be prepared for things to run rather slowly unless you can add a fair bit of memory to the Macs.
Hope this helps. |
