IBM Thinkpad DVI problem with IBM Software
OK here is a really weird problem that I can't figure out.
I have an IBM Thinkpad T42 and a 17" IBM flatscreen. I was using a regular analog cable to connect the monitor to the port replicator. I had my laptop set up on the left and the monitor and keyboard in front of me and I was running extended screen with the monitor as the primary and the laptop as the secondary. The laptop was set with a 1400x1050 res and the monitor at 1280x1024 (its max). I was using IBM's Presentation Director to manage my profiles 1. extended as described above 2. laptop only This allowed me to switch profiles realy easily (Fn + F7). Really easy. Everything was working fine but the resolution on hte monitor did not look great. I decided to try to switch to a DVI cable (the port replicator also supports DVI). This is where the weird problem began. First of all the resolution on the monitor was greatly improved. Everything was much more crisp. Now the problem. While Windows Display Properties was able to continue to handle my extended setup very well, the IBM software could not support it. It seems that the IBM software (Thinkpad Configuration, Presentation Director) does not recognize the 17" monitor when it is on the DVI cable. What this means is that I can't easily switch between my profiles (as the IBM software can't recognize the monitor). I have to remember to change the display properties before removing the laptop from the dowcking station otherwise I will have to restart (the laptop was the secondary so I can't access any programs because windows still thinks they are still over to the right on my other monitor). I hope that I am making sense. I am looking for the way to get the IBM software to recognize the monitor when it is on the DVI cable. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks

I had to uninstall the version I had of the IBM Presentation software and re-install the new one.
The old one did not handle DVI. It only gave you the option of "External Monitor). In the new version i let you choose between analog and digital external monmitors.
