Is dell 2001fp still the best?
Hello all, Ive heard that the dell 2001fp is the best, in fact I have even started saving for one. But it seems like every couple of months it goes down in price so I always hold off on getting it. When I started looking at this monitor it was a whooping $1350 Canadian, it is now a nice $900 Canadian and I will get it as soon as there is a free shipping or a 10% off coupon. Just wondering if there has been any other monitors out there that are as good/better than the dell 2001fp. Thanks all.

Purely conjecture here, but, while it may be possible that there are better 20" LCDs out there, I don't think that any body can argue that the 2001fp is the best 20" LCD for it's price. I'm sure that you could find better, but the question is, would you want to pay extra for better quality, do you even need something that offers better quality than the already excellent 2001fp?

Yep. The Dell 2001FP and 2005 are still the best when it comes to the 20" market. If I remember correctly, they have been for about a year now according to Maximum PC. I think I'll stick with my 17" CRT until the price on this comes down... WAY down.

psh... 24 inch... I'm waiting for the 30in Apple Cinema Display to come down in price and for PC video cards that are able to push that bad boy. 2560x1600, 16ms claimed, and 400:1. Of course it's also $3000 right now, thus the wait.
So that this isn't a complete thread jack, the 2001FP is only $599.20 ($600) and the 2005fpw is only $561.75 right now. The 24" widescreen 2405FPW is only $1,199 ($1200) (too bad it's not on sale like the others)

WOW those 24 inchers are nice!! One question though... When playing video games what exactly does the game do with the wide screen? Does it crop the sides of the screen out, stretch to fill it, or does the game have a seperate widescreen mode? I figure that by the time I get the money for one of these and if I dont get the 2405fpw then Ill just be disapointed. As soon as I have the money and it goes on sale then ill pick it up for sure.
As a side note for everyone posting here: Please say what currency you are talking about!! Everytime I see those prices my heart leaps, only to fall back again as I realise that it is in American funds and not Canadian. |

depends on the game. Most games now you can play at 16:9 or 16:10 ratio. I currently only play counter strike and I run that at 1920x1200, I'll post a picture of it later tonight.

I just got a Sony SDM-HS95P/S and that is about the sharpest screen I have ever seen and you can get that for 599.99 with mail in.
I have not seen the Dell in action yet so I cant compare but I will say the Sony has a better picture that a regular CRT mine being a Dell 780 And Im not even a Sony fan. http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTE...abName=feature |

Well all I just picked up my monitor today. I ended up going with the Samsung SyncMaster 915N. Its contrast ratio is 700:1 and has 8ms responce time. Im really impressed with it so far. Going from a 13 inch viewable to this is absolutely amazing! I actually have desk space now and I can fit more than 20 words side-by-side. The only problem that I have with it is that it is so low to the desk, there is no verticle ajustments to the stand; I am going to rig up some 2x12's under it and just paint them black.
Oh yes, I also picked it up for a grand total of $620 Canadian! That includes GST (7% for you foriegners) and a $12 recycling fee. |
