Verizon FiOS
My parents are considering this, and I'm doing some research on it, but I thought I'd ask you fine folks, because we've got a pretty fair pool of knowledge; what do you think about this service? On paper it obviously looks good: cheaper than my cable internet and certainly better than their DSL, but I'm always leery of new technology; it generally needs to be shaken out for a while first. Any comments are appreciated.

Damn I am drooling over FIOS. I live in a rural area and get the pleasure of having dial-up that connects at a whopping 26K.
I wouldn't really consider this new technology. All it does is extend fiber "the last mile" to your home. Everything's already going for the long haul on fiber anyway; FIOS just gets it to your home without copper slowing everything down. |

I checked to see if it was available at my house and it isn't yet. Once they have it available for my area and if static addresses are included I will move in a heartbeat. I pay way too much for 1.5/768 DSL right now through Speakeasy.net.
