Worth buying brand new RAM?

Right now in my 3.0GHz P4, I have 512MB (2x256MB) of RAM running at CAS 3. All the latencies are at 3-7-7-8.

I know I have to upgrade to 1GB because games keep crashing on me and I keep getting errors that I don't have enough RAM. Partly because I don't run a pagefile because it just slows down the system.

So now the only dilema I have is whether to choose on upgrading with another 2 sticks of 256MB of CAS 3 RAM or go for 2.5CAS with 1GB (2x512). I've looked on google about it and some forum said that you can get a 5-10FPS increase. That would be pretty nice considering I'm getting a FPS increase and a memory increase.

So its up to you TFP to decide :artly:: on what I choose.

If money is a factor then id get two sticks because in all honesty I dont think you will notice that big of a difference. However if money is a non-issue... fuck yea get one stick. Although im sure I just wrote in words what you were already thinking... heh

If you can afford it go with the two 512 sticks. You'll see a small performance increase, but you'll also be set up for another 1GB down the road with the two free slots left over.

I'd say you should go for the 2 sticks of 512. If money is the issue, you should shop around. Try looking at pricewatch.com, i've seen RAM pretty cheap on there. Just make sure it is the exact type you need before buying it.

Your post sort of confused me, but I can assure you this: the 5-10 FPS increase from the CAS settings is bullshit. 5 FPS MAX and not even on average...average would probably be 1-2 FPS increase. Not worth it. Just get a total of 1 GB of RAM however you do it...games want a fuckton of RAM moreso than a nice processor. Another major system aspect is your videocard. A nice videocard will double or triple your FPS depending on how bad your old one is.
