Question about Yahoo scam
So a bunch of people on my list got IMs from a friend whose computer must have been infected with some sort of virus.
The message said "Hey, check out this funny picture!" When you click on the link, it takes you to some geocities page, but it has a fake, but official looking, log-in screen. There's a few dead giveaways that this is a bullshit log-in screen, but a few of my friends that don't know better logged in anyway. So they put in their ID and password, and it tells them "Thank you" or something like that. That's it. Just records their username and password. A few days after my friends did this, the password to their account was changed, and they couldn't log-in. So they had to make new accounts. Weird thing is, I saw their old usernames all logged in one night, even though they weren't using them. So my question is...what do these scammers get out of this? What danger does it pose to those who's accounts were taken over? What the fuck were they online for?

thrill of the trick, they can also use them to broadcast links for viagra and crap.
but I think that to an extent the thrill of it, because depending on what you are doing, it can be rather exciting. tell your friends to click I forgot my password and reset it/get new one sent to their e-mail...(or does that not work for yahoo IM?)
