Instant Messangers on a Thumb Drive
Does anyone know of a Messanger that I can throw on my thumb drive and run it from there without installing it? I'm trying to figure out that now, with being able to MUD from my thumb drive, browse the web from my thumb drive can I also chat with friends from my thumb drive :D

You could try Trillian. Besides being the best IM out there (in my opinion anyway) it stores it's settings in an ini file, which gets rid of a need for the registry. The only problem is that I think you need few files in the system32 folder.

I tried miranda as well, it works like it says it does. It takes a little getting used to, and ill play with it some more and let you know how it turns out.

I know there is a way to load the ICQ java client onto a thumbdrive. But i have been unable to do so sence my drive went into a wash cycle and then dried. The plastic case melted around the drive and must have trapped a little water and its shorted out.

Ya, I installed Miranda and it works like a charm. I am actually going to use that on my OLD laptop instead of GAim or Trillian because they both are resource hogs.

It's been my IM of choice on my PC for over a year. (and the bf uses it on his USB stick) Does what I want it to do, without trying to do too much, and is nicely customiseable. |
I've used Miranda for quite awhile.
I still can't get over the fact that you need to have multiple DLLs loaded if you have more than one account on a certain network. It's small, and customizable. I can't wait for the next version. I hope they fix that whole DLL issue. I'm very tempted to start learning advanced C so I can help speed it up. =) |
