Odd Video Problem
I reformatted, installed all video drivers, and everything. I go, and play counter-strike ( OPENGL )...played it for 15min, no problem at all, no fps drops, nothing. Go to play HL2 ( D3D )...freezes. Restart, try to run 3DMark01 ( d3d ), freezes...try to run Counter-Strike:Source Stress Test, freezes....So basically it freezes on D3D games, and not OpenGL. I have the latest version of DirectX installed. Any ideas?

That does sound bizarre, but why can't you just have it always use OpenGL. Most games support both, and many seem to prefer OpenGL (unless it's made by Microsoft). I believe HL2 is not strictly D3D. As for why that happens for D3D games, I don't really know, unfortunately. Maybe it has to do with your card not being able to support the latest version of D3D which the game requires if you choose to play using D3D. So, even with the latests Direct X installed, it can still be a hardware problem, I believe. My next question would be: What card are you using?

Anytime when there is trouble with a graphics intense game you have a few options:
Update to the latest GL, DirectX or both & video card drivers Patch the game(s) Since you've done the DirectX, try video card driver and OpenGL, if that still doesn't work, get the game patches. Good luck. |
