SSDP may be slowing you down in XP
I was getting some major CPU spiking from something called the SVCHOST.EXE process. Its normal for several versions of SVCHOST.EXE to run in the background but it shouldn't be taking 40-50% of your CPU. I checked out my services and found out that something called SSDP was continually trying to stop and start. Switched it to manual and everythings been running healthy so far. SSDP enables the use of Universal Plug n Play over your network. I just wanted to throw it out there so people can check it if they are getting the same frustrations that I was.
Give me a reply if you know more about it and warn me if I'm screwed by disabling it.
