Hrm. Logged in just fine right now. So it appears from here that they aren't down or anything.

can you try a traceroute? if you are in windows, do "Start -> Run" and run "cmd.exe", in the text-box that pops up (a shell), type in "tracert www.hotmail.com"

If it says that it can't find tracert, I either mis-remembered the command name, or you need to find tracert.exe and change to that Folder in that text window "cd C:/winnt/system/" (or wherever it really is)

Let me know how far you got.

It could be that the SSL certificate was recently changed on some of hotmail's site, so now it uses one signed by Microsoft's Key, which might not be installed on your system.

Try updating your msn program itself.

Maybe I'm off base, but Hotmail recently changed their setup so that "old" accounts could still access their mail via Outlook Express, but new ones would have to use the webmail version.

Does that resemble your situation?

What's the exact error message, and where is it appearing?

MSN/Hotmail disabled Outlook and Outlook Express connections for everyone because of spam abuse. I have an old account and had the same problems.

you will have to use the web page only.

It happens right after I sign in. The operation timed out when attempting to contact by 110fd.bay110.hotmail.msn.com

I have two Hotmail accounts that work fine right now with Outlook Express. The message MSN sent out said that the old accounts would be grandfathered.
