Wet monitor
Here in Melbourne we recently experience some heavy rainfall (most rainfall in a 24 hour period on record). Unfortunatly it started raining in my room during the night and when I woke up I found my Monitor covered in water. As there are ventilation holes on the top of the monitor water got inside it. My question is, if it would be worth trying to get it repaired, or if I should just purchase a new monitor straight away?

I have looked into getting monitors repaired a few times, but most of the time, it ends up being more cost effective to just buy a new one. Probably depends on how nice your current monitor is, and how much it will cost.

I wouldn't give up completely on that monitor just yet. If you managed to uplug it before it got too waterlogged there might be a chance that it might eventually be alright. Just try and drain the water out of it, and let it sit for a few days in a dry place before plugging it back in. killeena's right if it is toasted, usually though it will cost more to fix it than to just buy a new one.

Yes! the monitor is working once more. It just took ages to dry out (over 48 hours), but it is working normally now. Thank you for your advice anyway.

When electronic equipment like TVs, monitors, computers etc are in a fire, the insurance companies will send it to a company that soaks it all down with water / chemicals to clean it and get the smell off. It should work fine once it's dried out.

Just probably to elaborate at this point, water alone will not damage a system, its the conductivity of the water (with some dissolved minerals mixed in) that creates a short if there is a current and fries the component. Other liquids on the other hand are a different matter - I've seen beer and soda spills that caused corrosion within a day in addition to shorting the system.
Glad to hear the monitor's working. |
Now it's dying again, colours on the side of the picture are all faded and weird, it's getting worse aswell. So I guess I will have to get a new one after all.

That doesn't surprise me. It was worth a try to dry it out though.

Sorry, your monitor is gone.
