Looking for a file renaming program
 

Here's the situation. I have thousands of pictures that I would like to burn to disk and play from my dvd player on my tv as a slide show when family comes to visit.

However, I would like the pictures to be renamed in a random fashion as I don't want them to play in any specific order. Playng in order would make the same pictures play every time I had a family event.

Either that or I could buy an svideo cable and use my compter hooked to my TV but alas, I would still need a program to randomize the photos. And actually, this would be the better option as the pics would truly be played random every time and I could continue to add photos to the folder without having to burn a disk every time I wanted to update.

What's the naming convention the files need to be in? Like 001.jpg, 002.jpg, etc?

well, the renaming prog I always recommend is called simply Renamer
freeware, and i just verified that in the 'edit' menu, under 'misc' is 'insert random number' - which then pops up a dialog that gives you a few options...
