USB hubs - 2 questions
I'm looking for a good quality USB 2.0 hub, 4 or more ports, powered, for use on a desktop computer (a Mac, but that shouldn't make a difference). I have two questions:
* I saw a statement on one review site that if you plug a USB 1.1 device into a USB 2.0 hub, the entire hub slows down to USB 1.1 speeds. True or false? * Are there any manufacturers to look for or look out for? |
1) ive never heard anything like that.. but i could see if you plugged the usb2 into a usb1 it would slow it down..
2) not to sure on this one |
Belkins are good. Thats about all that I have used.
If its USB2, the whole bus is 2 and anything 1.x will only go as fast as it will allow, the others will go full speed. |
Yeah, I figured the 1.1 vs 2.0 thing was bogus, but I wanted to make sure before I made a purchase.

if your computers usb is enhanced i.e usb2 then your new hub will run at 420mbs but if it is only usb 1.1 then it will run at 12 mbs...
|
False. I think what they meant to say is that each usb peripheral will run at their given throughput which depends on whether it is 1.1 or 2.0 compliant.

Actually, I found the quote again, from this Amazon review:

Nope, wait, I take that back. Here's from the D-Link webpage: Quote:

I've been using Belkin Hubs with no problems. The last one I got had 5 outlets on the side and two on the top. It is small and looks good. unfortunately, the model number was on the box which is now long gone.
