Connection problems
I connect through a LAN at school. I just installed a new motherboard (Epox 8KRAI-X) and now my internet is always going on and off. I'll be on AIM and I will lose my connection and then gain it back a few minutes later. Oh, and when I restart my computer it takes about 15-25 minutes to get my connection going. With my other motherboard it would take about 10 or so minutes but I would never lose my connection. My roommates connections seem fine and don't fluctuate like mine. Its pissing me off. What is wrong? I have the latest drivers for my LAN card. The motherboard has onboard LAN but I have disabled it, so I don't think thats the problem. Also, when I try to repair the connection it says that it can't renew the IP address and to contact my admin or ISP. What should I do?

Is there a big difference between the LAN card and the onboard LAN port?
I'd remove the card and enable the onboard port and see if the problem persists. Then you would know whether the problem is related to the card or the motherboard. If the connection is still screwy then it's the motherboard and aside from downloading the latest drivers for it, there's not a whole lot you can do. Coincidentally, I had a similar problem with my new motherboard. It didn't fluctuate, but was real slow to start up. I just switched to the onboard port (similar speeds and whatnaught) and it cleared up. Hope it helps?
